The 7 Tips and Tricks I Use to Help Me Stick To My Fitness Goals

I love working on my fitness goals and I’ve worked really hard on making my fitness be part of my lifestyle. I trust that I will get in my workout sessions 5-6x a week because I am someone who likes to workout and live a healthy lifestyle. But that doesn’t mean that it’s always easy to get to my workouts. On those days, I fall back to these 7 tips and tricks. Keep on reading below to find out the tips and tricks I use to make it that much easier for me to stick to my fitness routine.

Habit Tracker

I like to use a habit tracker and I keep it inside of my bullet journal. There’s something so satisfying about marking off a row in my habit tracker every time I finish something like my workout. You don’t need to get fancy with this, I simply just write down “fitness” as a column in my bullet journal, and then I list the days out as my rows. I review my habit tracker every day and it feels so good to see how many marked off boxes I have vs empty white space. It makes me incredibly motivated to keep working on my fitness. It also serves as a nice easy way to see how my month passed by. If I ever feel lazy for feeling like I didn’t move around enough, I have the proof to back up or quiet these negative self thoughts.

Workout Clothes that I Look and Feel Good in

It’s no secret that when you look good, you feel good. I know that there are some women out there that literally do not care what they look like when they work out, but that’s not me. I don’t think I look good when I am wearing an oversized shirt and sweats to a workout, so I simply don’t. I don’t have the mental energy to feel insecure in the way I look and workout, so I eliminate it by not doing something that isn’t aligned with me. It’s worth it to figure out what you like to wear when you work out. Personally, I’m a shorts/sports bra/cutout shirt kinda girly because I run hot and get light headed quite easily. It’s worth it to take the time to figure out what works for you.

Noise Canceling Earbuds

I can’t tell you how much of a game changer these things are. If you struggle with getting into the zone, these babies will drown out the world and get you there. I personally cannot stand using headphones in the gym because they make my ears so hot! This is why I love some type of noise canceling earbuds. My favorite have got to be airpods.

Have a Plan

How do you get better at something? By consistently practicing it. So if you want to reach a goal like get a bicep peak, you’re going to have to keep working on your biceps each week until you reach your goal. Your goal is simply your destination and it’s up to you to figure out a plan to get there. This is why I always have a plan for what I will do before I workout. In time, and after trial and error, you’ll get used to it and create a routine of exercises that you can do before you start working out. Having a plan keeps you focused and motivated on your goal. It will also help you from feeling so lost and overwhelmed in a gym.

Schedule Time For Fitness

When I schedule a fitness session for myself, I’m telling myself that the time is a priority to me. It makes it easier for me to get to because I know that I’ve considered my day and made time for myself. When I was first starting out, scheduling in my workout was such a game changer that really helped me actually get to my sessions. I just wanted to check “workout” off of my to-do list because it’s satisfying and then eventually it just became a habit. It still feels awesome to mark it off in my to-do list and my habit tracker

Create a Vision Board

Vision boards help me because they help me visualize myself as the person who has achieved that fitness goal. It’s incredibly motivating to see pictures of people doing the things that I am currently doing or want to get to. I love to use Pinterest for this. When I visualize myself as the person who has achieved a goal, like deadlifting 1.5x their body weight, my mind thinks about what kind of lifestyle that person lives. I find that it helps motivate me and helps me shift my mindset into wanting to live that way and gives me that extra boost to go and workout.

Watch YouTube Videos

Same reason for the vision board, I love watching youtube videos of people on their journey too. It also gives me some inspiration for meals, workouts, and outfits. It also gives me a sense of community. I find that it’s a lot easier to stick to fitness if I have someone else that’s doing it with me too. Even if I don’t know them and it’s through the internet. It’s kind of like having an accountability partner every time a new video gets posted.
